Fall is a magical time of the year. In addition to cooler temperatures, the leaves on trees transform into gorgeous colors. This is also an ideal season to see an abundance of wildlife. Whether you live in Alabama or plan to visit, Cheaha State Park is a great place for adventure. It features beautiful scenery, especially during the fall season.
What Makes This State Park Unique?
At the highest point in the state of Alabama, you can see for miles. It’s part of the Appalachian Mountain chain and sits at the southernmost tip. Established in 1933, this is also the oldest state park in Alabama. Regardless of where you explore, you’ll see beautiful nature all around.
The Cheaha State Park stretches over 2,799 acres and rests at 2,407 feet above sea level. There, you’ll marvel at massive granite boulders and weather-tested trees. However, those aren’t the only things that make this place so unique. The Talladega National Forest, with its vast 392,567 acres, surrounds this park. Included in the forest is the Cheaha Wilderness, which accounts for 7,245 acres.
Although the Cheaha State Park is a mere 30 minutes from several big cities, it feels like a private oasis. You can hike and explore part of the day and then head to Ashland, Munford, Oxford, and other nearby towns to shop and eat. These places, as well as Heflin, Lineville, Talladega, and Anniston, offer various forms of recreation and cultural arts as well.
Even if you’re from Alabama, you might consider staying in the Talladega National Forest while visiting this state park. You’ll find all kinds of wonderful accommodations. These include bed and breakfast inns, A-frame chalets, rock cabins, and private rooms inside lodges. If you want a more rustic experience, there are plenty of safe places to camp in the Cheaha State Park.
It doesn’t cost much to enter the Cheaha State Park. The following is the cost of an all-day pass:
