What Makes This State Park Unique?
At the highest point in the state of Alabama, you can see for miles. It’s part of the Appalachian Mountain chain and sits at the southernmost tip. Established in 1933, this is also the oldest state park in Alabama. Regardless of where you explore, you’ll see beautiful nature all around.
The Cheaha State Park stretches over 2,799 acres and rests at 2,407 feet above sea level. There, you’ll marvel at massive granite boulders and weather-tested trees. However, those aren’t the only things that make this place so unique. The Talladega National Forest, with its vast 392,567 acres, surrounds this park. Included in the forest is the Cheaha Wilderness, which accounts for 7,245 acres.

Although the Cheaha State Park is a mere 30 minutes from several big cities, it feels like a private oasis. You can hike and explore part of the day and then head to Ashland, Munford, Oxford, and other nearby towns to shop and eat. These places, as well as Heflin, Lineville, Talladega, and Anniston, offer various forms of recreation and cultural arts as well.

Park Information
It doesn’t cost much to enter the Cheaha State Park. The following is the cost of an all-day pass:
- Ages 0 to 3 – Free
- Ages 4 to 11 – $2
- 12 years and older – $5
- Age 62 and older – $2
- Active military and veterans – Free
To receive the discounted price for seniors, as well as free admission for military personnel and veterans, the park requires current identification.
There’s also a quaint store that opens at 7:00 a.m. and closes at 9:00 p.m. daily. In addition to paying the entrance fee at the Mountain Store, you can pick up a map that shows all the different walking and hiking trails.
