Some musicians perform so well together, it’s easy to believe that it’s in their blood. For the three sisters of Joseph, that’s definitely the case. You can see this tight-knit trio live on Saturn’s space-age stage this month, so make plans for a lively night in Avondale!

Joseph
Hailing from Oregon, the trio is comprised of three sisters: Allison and Meegan Closner, and Natalie Closner Schepman. They’ve come a long way from their humble house shows around Portland, and are currently touring the U.S. in support of their third album, Good Luck, Kid. The group’s early efforts charmed listeners with pop-friendly folk sensibilities, but they’ve taken the new album as an opportunity to dive into more aggressive rock territory.
The album starts with “Fighter,” a desperately sincere plea to work things out rather than let a good relationship fade out. Through its relatable sentiment, the song covertly tells the story of how the band nearly went their separate ways. Later on the record, “Green Eyes” reflects on letting someone leave, even when it’s obvious how much that separation will sting.
While in Avondale
Saturn is in a prime location within one of Birmingham’s most bustling neighborhoods. The community of Avondale has grown by leaps and bounds in recent years, and 41st Street South is now home to an appealing lineup of restaurants and other attractions. Post Office Pies cooks oven-fired pizzas, and next door, SAW’s smokes their own mouth-watering barbecue. Fancy’s on 5th has you covered for both surf and turf dining with their oyster bar and burgers, while Taco Moro Loco serves up authentic Mexican dishes. You can always check to see if Travis’ food truck is parked by the venue, then dip inside to pass the time with some vintage video games.
