The summer heat has returned and baseball season is in full swing. Our own Birmingham Barons are giving their all in the Southern League this season, and if you haven’t been to a game yet, don’t worry! You have a whole summer of opportunities to root for the home team at Regions Field.
The 2019 Season
While the season kicked off back in April with an away game in Biloxi, you still have plenty of opportunities to see the Barons play at home this summer. The season runs until September, and the Barons will host several home games at regions field each month. They’ll face the Jackson Generals on June 4-6, the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp on June 12-16, and the Mobile BayBears on June 25-29. In July, they’ll host the Pensacola Blue Wahoos, Tennessee Smokies, and Chattanooga Lookouts.
Regions Field
When the Barons play at home, they host their opponents at Regions Field in downtown Birmingham. As a part of the recent revitalization efforts that have brought waves of new activity into the city, the stadium is right across the street from the beautiful Railroad Park. Regions Field’s opening day was in 2013, after the Barons had spent years playing out in Hoover. Along with the ballgame down on the diamond, guests can enjoy the ballpark’s various concession stands, Switchyard dining area, and family fun park. The stadium is located at 1401 1st Avenue South, Birmingham, AL 35233.
Did You Know?
The 2019 season is the 25-year anniversary that basketball icon Michael Jordan played for the Birmingham Barons. For his first game in 1994, over 10,000 fans came out to watch him swing away in his No. 45 jersey. Jordan’s short time in Minor League Baseball was captured on film, and he can be seen sporting the Barons’ colors in the live-action/animated Warner Brothers movie Space Jam.
