Oak Mountain
This awesome, family-friendly trail is located in Oak Mountain State Park, just on the outskirts of Birmingham, AL. The Honda CR-V offers ample space for loading your bikes but if the extra cargo space is not enough, you can throw the bikes up on the roof of your SUV with a bike rack. So load your Honda CR-V up with your bike as well as your family’s bikes and head over to Oak Mountain and discover what the trail has to offer. Even though most of the trail is single-track, it’s got enough rocks and roots to keep it interesting. This trail is not for the faint-of-heart! It’s a long one that you can either take your time or blow through and burn yourself out with, especially during the summer. Most of the trail in Oak Mountain is under tree cover and has a good mix of what you’d want in a mountain bike trail. The climb up the backside and small jumps and winding paths on the eastern side will offer you the challenge that most mountain bikers crave. If you need to cool off or want to take a snack break midway through the ride, there’s a nice lake to swim in at the bottom of the trail with surrounding picnic tables.

Coldwater Mountain
Moving one step above the biking trail of Oak Mountain in difficulty, Coldwater Mountain offers a long, flowing trail system similar to Oak Mountain but with more rocks and climbs. Some may call it Oak Mountain on steroids. Located about halfway between Birmingham and Atlanta, your drive to Coldwater Mountain will take a little over an hour. A one hour drive in your Honda CR-V will seem like no time at all with the state of the art technological features such as Bluetooth connectivity, Pandora integration, XM radio capability amongst others. Once you begin the trail at Coldwater, you will be introduced to a climb. This climb is worth it once you reach the opposite side of the hill. The descend after the climb will provide you with a speed that you won’t experience at Oak Mountain. Overall, Coldwater Mountain is rated intermediate for its combination of smooth trails, ambitious climbs and fast descents.

Monte Sano State Park
If you are looking for something more advanced, hop into your Honda CR-V and head over to Monte Sano State Park. About an hour and a half to two hours drive from Birmingham, Monte Sano State park is situated south of Huntsville, AL where the trails are nestled atop the last few stretches of Lookout Mountain. A two hour drive may seem long but if you are a true mountain biking enthusiast, you will find that the drive is definitely worth it especially while driving in your CR-V. The Honda CR-V’s excellent fuel economy makes it a perfect vehicle for your biking adventures! The trails at Monte Sano State Park consists of narrow paths, loose, hidden rocks, intense climbs and fast descents filled with technical challenges for well-seasoned bikers. But wait, if you are looking for something that is less intense, there are trails here for you too! Monte Sano State Park offers several smooth-riding trails that are suitable for riders who are interested in a more leisurely ride.
