Your Honda was a major investment when you purchased it, so you want to take the best care of it that you can. Protecting the exterior paint is one of the best things you can do for the car to protect its value. We’ve all seen cars that haven’t been cared for properly, and we pass them by even though the owner swears that the engine runs great. A well-maintained engine is critical, but a nice-looking body to go with it completes a car that people aren’t ashamed to be seen in. It also boosts the resale value of the car a lot.
Keeping a good coat of wax on your Honda is probably the best way there is to protect the paint. Adverse elements, such as snow, rain, dirt, gravel, salt, bird droppings, pollution, and ultraviolet rays, are hard on a car’s paint. A coat of good-quality paste wax will protect the paint and make the car easier to wash and keep clean.
General Waxing Frequency
If your Honda is garaged or parked in a carport, you probably will need to wax it only a couple of times a year. Preferably, it should be cleaned thoroughly in the spring to get off all of the winter’s accumulation of grime. This is the perfect time to give it a good coat of wax. Then, in the late autumn, just before winter sets in, do it again. The wax will protect the paint from winter’s abuse of your car. However, if you have to park it unprotected, you should wax it at least every three or four months.
When to Wash and Wax It More Often
If you live near the ocean or in a cold climate where deicers are used on the roads, you should wash your car at least weekly to keep the salt from corroding the finish. Salt and the other elements already mentioned will damage the clear coat, which is the top coat that protects and seals the paint.
Take your car to a car wash and let the machinery do the work. A good car wash has sprayers that will wash the undercarriage, cleaning it of road grime. Usually for an extra dollar or so, the car wash will spray a thin coating of wax mixed with water over your car just before you go through the dryers. This is all right, but it doesn’t take the place of a good hand waxing.
