A nice, cool glass of ice tea is one of the most refreshing things you can drink during a hot summer day. However, making it right is an art in itself. Do it a just a little incorrectly and it can end up being either too sweet, too bland, or any one of a number of other ice tea catastrophes. Here are some directions and two different options for tea preparation. Follow these tips and become an expert at iced tea preparation – just in time for summer!
Hot-Brewed Iced Tea
You can make hot tea and chill it later for a tasty, refreshing treat. First, bring eight cups of water to a gentle simmer. Second, remove the water from the heat and add about six tea bags. Third, let this steep for four minutes. Fourth, remove teabags and drain the tea through a sieve. Finally, put the tea in a pitcher and refrigerate until it’s ready to drink.
Cold-Brewed Iced Tea
Would you rather make your iced tea cold-brewed? First, refrigerate eight cups of water with ten tea bags for between 15 to 36 hours. Second, remove the teabags and drain tea through a sieve. After this has been done, your tea is ice cold and ready to drink! Many consider this the preferred method, as it is touted to have a better flavor than hot-brewed tea. (Some also believe it to be the healthiest of the two.)
**After you have followed either of the directions above, add about a cup of sugar.
Homemade vs Store Bought Iced Tea
Perhaps you are used to purchasing your iced tea. After all, picking up this beverage from the store is much more time efficient and convenient. Is the process of making homemade iced tea truly worth it? Well, according to scientific studies, yes. Studies show that home-brewed iced teas typically contain a higher number of antioxidants than most teas you purchase ready-made from the store. This is beneficial because antioxidants work to reduce the number of free radicals in our bloodstreams – simultaneously reducing the risk of illnesses and chronic diseases alike. Therefore, if you would like to take advantage of the most benefits possible while drinking your tea, it’s best to brew it at home.
