Are you new to the greens? Golf is a great pastime, whether you are trying it for the first time, or are a natural. Not only is it a great physical activity, but it is a social skill you can enjoy in groups. If you are new to the game and looking for a few pointers, read over these tips. It won’t be long before you feel like you’re one of the guys playing at Augusta National Golf Club!
Check Inventory
Before you hit the course, check your golf clubs. The true rule is you can carry 14 clubs at a time, but the combination of what clubs is for you to decide. Don’t cost yourself penalties!
Use the Same Ball
At each hole, you must play with the same ball. Although, even the pros lose a ball from time to time, and if that’s the case, you can pull another out of your bag. After looking for about three minutes, the ball is considered lost.
Look For Tee Markers
Tee markers aren’t suggestions. When preparing to tee off, look for colors. The white indicator is for beginners, the red is for women, and the blue is for men.
If You Hit an Unplayable Ball
Hit a ball into the woods or the pond? It happens to the best of us, and you have a couple of options for how you can proceed with the game. First, you can take a penalty point, and test your luck again by hitting another ball, or take a “drop” in return for a penalty point.
Etiquette
Golf is a quiet sport, as the praise comes later on. When a fellow golfer is preparing to tee off, don’t make a phone call, start a conversation, or play music. He or she is trying to focus, so don’t throw off their game with unwanted noise.
