Springtime comes with many joys like warmer weather, blooming trees, the return of Pepper Place’s outdoor farmer’s market, and so much more. However, it also comes with a big dose of pollen, which affects your car as well as your seasonal allergies. Thankfully, keeping this yellow powder off of your car is perhaps easier than curing those seemingly endless sneezes and sniffles with these tips!
Why Pollen is Bad For Your Car
Though pollen won’t necessarily affect any of the mechanics or performance of your car, it is terrible for the paint and finish of your car. Though pollen doesn’t feel like much if you rub some between your fingers, its tiny particles will easily scratch your paint if you wipe it off without the proper materials. Plus, if left untreated, pollen will eventually decompose and stick to your paint even more, leaving a scratchy residue that is very hard to remove.
How to Remove Pollen From Your Car
Though you could just wait for the next rain shower, a more reliable (and preventative) method will always be better for your paint. Move your car to the shade, or get to work during a cloudy day – you want the surface of your car to be cool for this process. Working from the top down, mist your car with a detailing spray and let it sit for a few seconds. Fold a microfiber towel into quarters and begin wiping in a straight line. Roll the towel back a little and wipe a few more times, stopping before the section is completely dirty. After each wipe, wipe that section again with a second clean towel. You can unfold and refold the primary towel to reveal a new section several times before you’ll need to switch. At this point, you can use the second towel as your primary towel and grab a new follow-up towel.
Always use microfiber towels and never scrub the pollen, this will only cause more scratches. After the pollen is removed, apply wax to your vehicle to further protect it from pollen damage.
