Earlier this month, Honda hosted a Google Hangout to launch their latest 7-inch touchscreen “Display Audio” system that take part with Siri Eyes Free Program by Apple. Functioning like an iPhone, the interface enables users to easily swipe, touch, and pinch through the content like media, contacts, and maps. Equipped with four new iOS apps, the interface gives iPhone users more interaction and functionality:
HondaLink App Launcher
The HondaLink App Launcher is the point of reference for finding apps compatible with HondaLink Next Generation platform. Through this free app, the rest of the new Honda apps can easily be downloaded.
HondaLink Connect
As a free app, HondaLink Connect enables users to use basic information services such as performing local search, weather updates, save favorite destinations, and keep updated with their vehicle’s maintenance information. When scheduled, a notification will appear on the next service maintenance needed by the vehicle. Additionally, there is access to roadside assistance agents; in the event of an emergency.
HondaLink Aha
This free app connects the Display Audio interface with the vehicle dashboard through a series of cloud-based services. While the driver pays attention to the road, he still has access to his favorite internet content; including text-to-voice translations of Twitter and Facebook feeds.
HondaLink Navigation
The final app functions much like a GPS would, yet it provides its users access to traffic updates on freeways, highways, and other major streets. Users can easily search for specific addresses or points of interest; and use the information to route to their destination. While driving, users can interact with the app through the steering wheel controls. Although it costs $59.99 to download, it comes with free map updates every year.
The above-mentioned apps will be featured on the 2014 Honda Civic and the 2015 Honda Fit, the first two Hondas that have participated in the Siri Eyes Free Program.
