Both the Honda Civic and the Toyota Corolla are among the top selling subcompact cars. Both spots are perpetually vying for the top two spots – and it’s easy to see why. Both cars are good cars, but the Honda Civic is a GREAT car.
Honda Civic Exterior
On the exterior, both cars are very nice looking. However, the curvy, sporty lines of the new Honda Civic are hard to deny. The long hood and low-slung body add to the sporty, modern look of the Civic. On the inside, both vehicles have nice, comfortable upholstery, but the Honda Civic offers 15.1 cubic ft. of cargo space. Compared to the Corolla’s 13 cubic ft., that is a ton of room!
Honda Civic Engine
When it comes to power, the Honda Civic certainly has the edge. The Corolla’s 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine delivers 132 horsepower in standard form and 140 horsepower in Eco trim. Gas mileage for the Corolla in base trim is 28 mpg* in the city and 37 mpg* on the highway with the six-speed manual. The Civic’s base 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine gets 158 horsepower. Fuel economy for the base Civic with a six-speed manual is 27 mpg* in the city and 40 mpg* on the highway, and jumps to 31/41 mpg* with the CVT. The new turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine is where the Honda Civic really shines. This turbocharged engine produces 174 horsepower and delivers 31 mpg* in the city and 42 mpg* on the highway when paired with the standard CVT. The Civic is the clear winner in the power category.
While the Toyota Corolla is a good value, you simply can’t beat the Honda Civic overall. If you are looking for a great compact car, then come see us at Brannon Honda in Birmingham. We have a huge selection of 2016 Honda Civics you have to come check out yourself.
