Try Some Hot Chicken In Birmingham

Try Some Hot Chicken In Birmingham
If you’ve got a craving for spicy food, you’ll find all the heat you can handle at our local hot chicken restaurants. Hot chicken originated in Nashville, but has found a welcoming home amid Birmingham’s diverse culinary community. We’ve got a couple of wonderful options in the Magic City, so bring your appetite and keep a cold drink handy!

Eugene’s Hot Chicken

Instantly recognizable with their big red food truck, the good folks behind Eugene’s Hot Chicken have been serving the hot stuff in the Magic City since 2015. Founded by former Nashville culinarian Zebbie Carney, Eugene’s was the first food truck to introduce the Tennessee-style dish to Birmingham palates.

A generous range of heat levels offers something for everyone, whether you’re looking for a mild burn, or the Stupid Hot “for the bold and daring.” If you want the pure Southern joy of fried chicken without the blazing heat, Eugene’s also offers a golden no-heat variety as well as a savory lemon pepper flavor. While the chicken can be enjoyed as tenders, popcorn-style, wings, flats, or drums, you can order them in sandwiches, po-boys, and even chicken and waffles.

You can keep track of “Matilda” the food truck’s whereabouts HERE, and even if it’s not parking near you anytime in the immediate future, there’s still hope! You can always Eugene’s brick and mortar location in the Uptown entertainment district near the BJCC. Since 2017, the cozy restaurant has served their spicy seasoned offering within walking distance of one of Birmingham’s newest destinations for nightlife. The restaurant is located at 2268 9th Avenue North, Birmingham, AL.

Hattie B’s Hot Chicken

Hailing from Nashville, Hattie B’s Hot Chicken brings the Music City heat with a variety of spice levels, from the cordial Southern with no discernible spice to the alarming Shut the Cluck Up, which will test even the most adventurous eaters. You way want to douse the heat with one of Hattie B’s flavorful sides like black eyed pea salad, red skin potato salad, or the popular mac and cheese.

While the chicken is delicious on its own, you may order a platter with dipping sauces like blue cheese, ranch, or honey mustard. When the chicken has come and gone, you’ll want to save room for dessert, as the restaurant’s sweets menu features banana pudding, ice cream, seasonal cobbler, and even coke or root beer floats. This restaurant is located in the lively Lakeview neighborhood at 2808 7th Avenue South, #101 Birmingham, AL.
