Tips for Correctly Washing Your Honda’s Paint

Washing Honda BirminghamCaring for your Honda can be easy if you know what to do. While most people focus on things like regular maintenance, caring for the exterior of your vehicle is just as important. You may not realize it, but there is actually a right and a wrong way to wash the paint on your car. Following the proper steps is the best way to ensure that you don’t cause tiny scratches or swirls on your Honda’s exterior.

Use the Right Materials

To wash your Honda’s paint correctly, you will need the right materials. Get several 5-gallon buckets that have grit guards on the bottom. This feature lets the dirt stay in the bottom so it doesn’t end up back on your car. You will want to put a squirt of soap for paint in the bucket along with one inside your wash mitt and one on the outside of the mitt. Then, add water to the bucket until it is three-quarters full, repeating the process without the soap for your second bucket. Be sure to always use wash mitts and dry your Honda with a drying agent and damp microfiber towel. Don’t use beach towels, shammies, or water-blades since they won’t pick up leftover dirt. Instead, they will grind the particles in the paint, leading to scratches.

Start in the Right Spot

You may think you should start at the top of your car and work your way down, but experts actually suggest the opposite. Begin with the lower third of your Honda since this is where the most dirt will be. This lets you take care of the most challenging part first. Pre-rinse the area with a hose or power washer then use your wash mitt, following straight lines from the top down to the bottom. Be sure to dunk your mitt every five to six swipes, running your hands through it so the dirt gets knocked off. After washing this area thoroughly, rinse it. If it is particularly warm or sunny, consider doing this area in smaller sections so the water doesn’t begin to dry before rinsing, which would leave soap streaks. Once the bottom area is done, you can work your way upward.

Of course, if you feel overwhelmed by the process of correctly washing your Honda’s paint, you can have the exterior detailed by a professional. The team at Brannon Honda in Birmingham, Alabama, can also repair minor scratches and other imperfections on your car’s paint.
