Positively Funny Improv is Birmingham’s premiere professional comedy company with a large array of performances that range from weekly entertainment to classes taught by experienced comedy professionals. They offer shows at the StarDome Main Stage, which is their permanent home, and the Rare Martini Stage. They do shows in the style of “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” that are improv from beginning to end. They yield to crowd suggestions and offer something different at every event that is appropriate for the whole family. The audience participation adds a lot to the on-stage comedy. PFI is always funny, but never vulgar and follows the guidelines of prime-time television.
Main Stage
Come by the StarDome Theatre every Thursday night to see PFI perform on stage. This intimate setting is complete with crowd participation and laughs. These shows can be a little more vulgar. Rare Martini Stage
They also perform at the Rare Martini Stage in the Lakeview District every Tuesday from 7-9 pm. There is a large selection of food and drinks to choose from at this location, and there are usually ensemble cast members along with their normal featuring cast. Shows include games and music along with long-form improv. You never know what’s coming next. Tickets are $5 at the door. You can reserve by calling 205-323-0008.
Classes
They also offer a wide range of classes to teach you how to be funny and the basics of doing improv. Get involved in the varying forms of improve classes they offer from musical to graduate level. You can also learn comedy sketch writing, and stand-up comedy. Their newest addition to the list is their Digital Video Comedy Shorts.
