New Honda S2000 coming in 2019?

Car and Driver has been speculating about a possible Honda S2000 roadster coming between 2018 and 2019. While it’s only a rumor right now, it certainly sounds like it’s the real deal. Let’s do some sleuthing and see if a Honda S2000 roadster might be on the way by 2019, as the rumor says. We certainly hope the rumors are true!

Following in the 2017 Acura NSX’s Footsteps

Honda has brought out the 2017 Acura NSX which a new platform that the company spent a great deal of cash on. This is part of where the rumor comes from. Honda is willing to develop new platforms for its popular sporty models and this is why we think (and hope!) a new roadster is well on its way. This willingness is just what Honda needs for the revival of the S2000 roadster. Striving for innovation is what will allow Honda’s new roadster to come out on top. As of now there isn’t a Honda model that could lend its substructures to a sporty roadster. With Honda’s innovative drive, this will probably not be the case for long.

Dealers’ Desire for a New Sports Car

American Honda Executive Vice President John Mendel told Automotive News last year that dealers “want anything in the sports car world. They’re going, ‘Gimme a sports car.’ They want a retractable hardtop; they want a high-horsepower $20,000-sports car. Because that’s the nature of what they do.” With this demand for a high-powered, affordable sports car, it is inevitable that Honda is going to have to jump on creating one. A new Honda S2000 will be the answer to everyone’s roadster desires.

Whether this rumor is true or just wishful thinking, we certainly hope that it will come to fruition. If you are looking for a great vehicle in the meantime, then come see us at Brannon Honda in beautiful Birmingham, AL and check out our selection of new and pre-owned Honda vehicles today!
