Is Your Honda Accord Ready for Summer?

While following your Honda Accord’s service schedule is important year-round, summer maintenance can be particularly important. Winter is harsh on your car, even if you don’t live in an area with a great deal of snow. This means that your Accord may have experienced damage you aren’t aware of. Your sedan may also simply be due for regular maintenance, and spring is the perfect time to take care of everything.

Perhaps the most important parts of your Accord are the engine and battery, so be sure to have both of these checked, preferably by an official Honda service center. The engine should have general issues corrected, such as diminished power, rough idling, hard starts, or stalling. Your battery needs to be checked with professional equipment to determine its strength. You will also want to regularly scrape away corrosion, clean surfaces, and tighten connections.

Fluids

Every Honda Accord has several different fluids, and all should be checked during summer maintenance. You want to ensure that your cooling system is fully functional and has been flushed within the last 24 months to prevent breakdowns from overheating. The oil (plus filter) also needs to be changed regularly, and summer preparations are the perfect time to do so. Also take the time to make sure you have enough windshield wiper solvent, and replace your blades if they are worn.

For your own personal comfort, include the air conditioning as one of the components of your Accord to be checked at a service center. You will also want to inspect your car’s bulbs and replace ones that are burnt out. Don’t forget to check the brakes and fix any minor issues. Consider putting a first aid kit in your car as well if you don’t already have one there. Include some water in the kit in case you are stranded on a hot summer day.
