Brannon Honda – Honda celebrates an important landmark in the history of the Honda Accord in the United States: the 10 millionth U.S.-built Honda Accord to roll off the assembly line. The celebration took place at Honda’s first U.S. auto plant in Marysville, Ohio. In total, Honda’s four U.S. auto plants, including one right here in Alabama, now boast a cumulative production of 20 million vehicles. Honda acknowledges this feat could not have been accomplished without the help of 20 million trusting customers, tens of thousands of associates, and hundreds of suppliers.
The Marysville Auto Plant is Honda’s first U.S-based plant, built in November of 1982, as well as the first Japanese automobile plant in the United States. Since production began nearly 32 years ago, the Marysville Auto Plant has produced most of the Accords for the U.S. and other markets. Today, production at the Marysville Auto Plant consists of the Accord Sedan, Couple, and the Accord Hybrid.
After the Marysville Plant began production, Honda has established automobile manufacturing plants in East Liberty, Ohio; Lincoln, Ala.; and Greensburg, Ind. Both the East Liberty Auto Plant and Honda Manufacturing of Alabama produced Accords for a time. Today, Honda’s U.S. auto plants manufacture 11 different models: four cars and seven light-duty trucks. A second plant will open in Marysville next year, bringing Honda’s total U.S. manufacturing operations to five. The new Performance Manufacturing Center in Marysville will be the sole location for the global production of the next-generation Acura NSX.
Engine manufacturing plants in Lincoln, Ala. and Anna, Ohio; and automatic transmission manufacturing in Russells Point, Ohio and Tallapoosa, Ga. provide support for Honda’s U.S. auto plants.
In 2013, Honda celebrated another landmark. Its U.S. plants produced 1,309,917 vehicles in total for the year, a 7.4 percent increase from the previous year. In fact, in 2013 alone, almost 95 percent of Honda and Acura vehicles sold in the United States were manufactured in North America.
