2017 Honda Ridgeline Performance
A key part of any vehicle’s capability is its engine. The Ridgeline runs on a 3.5-liter V6 that generates 280 horsepower, a full 30 horses more than the previous model. This engine works with a 6-speed automatic transmission, an improvement over the previous 5-speed. You can go with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.
Among midsize trucks, the Ridgeline with all-wheel drive has the best payload capacity, reaching 1,584 pounds. This version will tow as much as 5,000 pounds. Going with front-wheel drive drops the payload to 1,465 pounds, which is still better than the Tacoma with a V6 engine, and the towing capacity to 3,500 pounds.

To make towing with the 2017 Ridgeline even easier, Honda includes prep for a 7-pin hookup on front-wheel drive models. All-wheel drive versions have a 2-inch receiver trailer hitch, the 7-pin trailer light socket, and an included pigtail. This is designed to make it easier to install the aftermarket electric trailer brake controller.
Off-Roading Features
In addition to its towing capabilities, the Honda Ridgeline can show off with its off-roading capabilities. The available all-wheel-drive system has a full automatic setup with several driver-selectable terrain settings. You can choose between Normal, Sand, Mud, or Snow. When you change the setting, you will notice an automatic adjustment in terms of transmission shift timing, throttle sensitivity, the front/rear power split, and stability and traction control intervention thresholds. The power split can have up to 100 percent in the front or be divided to 30 percent in the front and 70 percent in the rear, depending on need.
