If you’ve ever wanted to dip your toes into a dance class, but weren’t quite ready to commit to a full series of lessons, Dance Across Birmingham is perfect for you! It’s the Alabama Dance Council’s annual festival that offers a free day of dance classes in a variety of styles.
Dance Across Birmingham 2020
A variety of dance styles will be offered, including:
- Hip Hop
- Belly Dance
- Praise Dance
- African Dance
- Latin Dance
- Mexican Folk Dance
- Introductory Ballet
- Zumba®
- Jazz Dance
- Salsa
- Bollywood
You don’t need any experience to take the classes, which is the beauty of Dance Across Birmingham. All of the classes are free, so be sure to register ahead of time online to ensure you’ll be able to attend the classes you are excited about. Classes will be held in the BJCC North Meeting Rooms.
The classes will be an hour-long, beginning at 10:00 a.m. on January 11 then breaking for lunch from 12:15 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. Classes will resume at 2:30 p.m. and run until 4:45 p.m. During the lunch break you’re invited to attend a free community performance featuring some of Birmingham’s best dance talent! You’ll be able to purchase food from the BJCC concessions to enjoy while you watch the performance or grab lunch offsite.
Dance Across Birmingham is the perfect opportunity to take dance classes you would otherwise have to pay for, so go ahead and try something new. You might find your new passion!

About The Alabama Dance Council
The Alabama Dance Council (ADC) is a nonprofit that serves dance communities statewide. The ADC strives to promote the study, creation, performance, and enjoyment of dance in all forms. The Council offers a forum for communication about dance and supports the work of professional choreographers, dancers, and dance educators that support them in their artistic work.
The Alabama Dance Council hosts the annual Dance Across Birmingham festival, as well as the Alabama Dance Festival, one of the largest gatherings of dancers and dance enthusiasts in the Southeast United States. Masterclasses, audition opportunities, instructor training, networking, and performances by renowned regional dance companies.
