August Plays to See in Birmingham

Toruk: The First Flight

On Friday August 9th the BJCC will be hosting Cirque du Soleil “Toruk: The First Flight”. The arena spectacular brings James Cameron’s Avatar to life at the Legacy Arena. You do not want to miss this remarkable event. You’ll be talking about it for ages.

August 1st – August 7th features Beauty and the Beast Junior at the Virginia Samford Theater. This play is the timeless classic story of Belle and the Beast and it is fun for the entire family.

Shelby County Arts Council Storyteller Night

SCAC Storyteller Night takes place at the Shelby County Arts Council on Saturday August 13th. This event features Vann Sykes and Mayor Stancil Handly as they share personal stories and anecdotes that will have the whole family smiling from ear to ear.

75th Anniversary Classic Film Festival

The 75th Anniversary Classic Film Festival takes place at the Homewood Public Library. This night features a trio of classy cardsharps targets the socially awkward heir to brewery millions for his money, till one of them falls in love with him. This is a classic you don’t want to miss!

Disney’s The Little Mermaid

Red Mountain Theatre Company has added 5 extra shows for The Little Mermaid through August 7th! Located at the Dorothy Jemison Day Theater in Birmingham, AL, this is truly an event for all ages! Ticket prices start at $30 ages 13-Up. Child ticket prices start at $29 ages 2-12.

Sidewalk Film Festival

While it’s not exactly a play, the Sidewalk Film Festival in downtown Birmingham is a great event in the historic theater district. Sidewalk Film Festival has been named one of MovieMaker magazine’s “Top 25 Coolest Film Festivals in the World” two years in a row. This is an event you don’t want to miss out on!
